Is There Any Person Richer Than You?

Give by Victor NYANGULE
I was raised in a small town in Kenyan where everyone knew everybody, and at that time, people seemed to genuinely care about their neighbors despite the ups and downs of life. My grand parents were not wealthy but we could afford what's necessary aka basic needs such us food, watter, clothing, shelter, sanitation, healthcare and much, you name them. In summary, we were middle class family. I used to see my grandparent give hand or help whoever needed help.
The joy my grandparents experienced helping others not only neghbours but also anyone who would need help showed on their faces and their actions. They all beemed when they were able to help others positively or impacting others posotively or making a change in their life. My grand parents glow was real and there was no pretense at all. As a result, life was full and rich.
To shift the story, I read a story of Bill Gates about who is richer than him (Bill Gates). Apparently, someone asked Bill Gates the following question:
"Is There Any Person Richer Than You?"
He said, yes, only one. He went ahead to explain why someone is richer than him.
Many years ago, I had been dismissed and I had gone to New York airport. I read titles of newspapers there. I liked one of them and I want to buy it. But I didn't have change (coin). So abandoned the idea, suddenly, a black boy called me and told me, “This newspaper for you.” I said, but I don’t have change. He said, “No problem, I give you free”.
After 3 months, I (Bill Gates) went there. Coincidentally, that story happened again and that same boy gave me another free newspaper again. I said, I can’t accept it. But he said, “I give you from my profit.”
After 19 years, I had been rich and I decided to find that boy. I found him after one and half month's search. I asked him, do you know me? He said, “Yes, you’re famous Bill Gates.”
I said, you gave me free newspaper 2 times many years ago. Now, I want to compensate it. I am going to give you everything that you want. Black young man replied, “You can’t compensate it!”
I said, why? He said, "Because I gave you when I was poor. You want to give me when you are rich. So, how do you compensate?"
Bill Gates said, I think that black young man is richer than me.

Moral of the publication // Lessons learned from the above publication.

1. You don't have to be rich or wait to be rich to give
Believe it or not, the best time to learn generosity is when we have less, not more. Why? because when we have more, we also have more to lose and so we often cling to it tightly, fearful it might escape our grasp. Too often, we also tell ourselves we’ve earned our bounty or that we’re reaping the rewards of our own hard work and savvy money management. These attitudes keep us from practicing generosity. Always give with the small you have and do not expect returns, give generously. I believe that real attitude of giving is when you give even when it is not comfortable for you.
2. Giving is an act of power that feeds itself.
Did you know that helping others also helps us to find peace, contentment and joy in our own lives? As a firm believer that we should help one another in one way or another, I have found out that when I take an action that benefits another person, I feel fulfilled and good about myself at the core of my being. I feel at one with the universe around me. I feel like an agent of change, which makes me want to keep giving and continue that cycle. We can give in difficult times. We can reach out to others who are different or far away.
3. Every act of giving changes the world positively.
I believe that we all want to be agents of change. Despite the overwhelming negativity in the news, I truly believe that we all desire to
raise one another up. Sometimes, we fail to act simply because we do not know what to do or for whom to do it. In truth, we all have opportunities to touch others’ lives every day. We can do the hands-on work of volunteering at a food bank or homeless shelter, or we can financially support a charity of our choice. Whatever amount of money or time we have available to us, we can find opportunities to begin to change the world around us. Even the smallest act makes a positive impact.
By making the practice of giving part of your life, you’ll discover a sense of contentment and self-worth that may have been missing in your life before. It is in giving that we receive.
